Dijon haven’t enjoyed a great start to the season so will be hoping for a cup run to please the fans but can they get off on the right foot against Bordeaux? Read on for our free betting tips and match preview.
Dijon suffered their sixth defeat of the season at the weekend as they slumped to a 2-0 loss in Brest. Dijon had their chances but were ultimately dominated by the newly-promoted side. Stéphane Jobard’s men have won just two of their eleven games so far and currently sit bottom of Ligue 1. Dijon have scored just five goals so far, the lowest tally in the league, but they probably deserve to have a few more as they sit a very respectable tenth for chances created. They have an xG deserving of almost twelve goals but wayward finishing has really cost them so far. They rank fourth for ‘Big Chances’ created with 21 but have missed 17 of them.
The defeat against Brest was their first loss in four matches but Dijon really crumbled in that game as they endured their worst xGA numbers of the season. Dijon will be the visitors for this one, which will make this game even more difficult as they have lost four of their last six games on the road. Dijon have also lost four of their last five clashes with Bordeaux so they’ll need to be on their ‘A’ game here.
Bordeaux will be confident of winning this home tie with them sitting 8th in Ligue 1 but they haven’t been much better than Dijon in terms of form as they’ve lost three of their last four games. The difference with Bordeaux is that their defeats have been to Sainte-Étienne, PSG and Lille, who’re all very capable opponents. Outwith that, Bordeaux have been very impressive recently against weaker opponents with wins over Toulouse (3-1), Amiens (3-1) and Metz (2-0).
Bordeaux have scored 15 goals this season, the fifth best tally in the league, but ten of those have come on the road as they have really struggled in front of their own fans. Just one of their four wins have come at the Matmut Atlantique and they have the third lowest xG at home this season. Bordeaux’s most recent result was a poor 3-0 defeat in Lille so the freedom of the cup will be a welcome challenge.
Bordeaux have a great record over Dijon so we’re backing them to get the win here. Bordeaux have generally been very good this season and despite three losses in their last four games, they were all against teams that finished in last year’s top four. They held their own in two of these defeats, conceding just once, so we’re expecting them to show a similarly good performance here against a Dijon side who have failed to score in four of their last six away games. Bordeaux have won their last three games against Dijon to nil so we’re backing the home side to win 2-0.
